We are absolutely delighted to share some very special news from the Nigel Prosser Foundation. Our founder, Michelle De-Torre, has been named the Volunteer Award at the Community Inspiration Awards Winner 2026!
The award was presented at the Community Inspiration Awards ceremony in Birmingham on Friday 25 September 2026, an annual event organised by the Community Foundation to recognise people and organisations whose work is making a positive difference in their communities.
From Nomination to Community Inspiration Awards Winner!
Earlier this year, we were thrilled to announce that Michelle had been nominated for a Community Inspiration Award. To now be able to say that she won the Volunteer Award is an incredibly proud moment for Michelle, our volunteers, supporters and everyone involved with the Nigel Prosser Foundation.
The Volunteer Award recognises an individual who has dedicated their time and energy voluntarily to an organisation or cause and, through that commitment, made a significant difference within their community.
That makes this recognition particularly meaningful to us.
Michelle founded the Nigel Prosser Foundation in memory of Nigel, turning personal loss into something positive that could help other people. Since then, she has dedicated an enormous amount of her time to building the charity, supporting children and families with Special Educational Needs (SEN), organising events, raising funds, developing projects and creating a community where families can feel understood and supported.
Winning the Volunteer Award is a wonderful recognition of that dedication.
An Award That Belongs to Our Whole Community
Although Michelle’s name is on the award, achievements like this are never the work of one person alone.
Behind the Nigel Prosser Foundation is an incredible community of volunteers, trustees, supporters, fundraisers, businesses, organisations and families who give their time, skills, donations and encouragement to help us continue what we do.
Every event attended, every donation made, every hour volunteered, every fundraiser organised and every social media post shared helps us reach another family.
Michelle said:
I am absolutely overwhelmed and incredibly honoured to have won the Volunteer Award. The Nigel Prosser Foundation was created from such a personal place, in memory of my Nigel, and everything we do is about turning that love into something positive for other families.
This award may have my name on it, but it belongs to every single person who has supported our charity, volunteered their time, donated, fundraised or simply believed in what we are trying to achieve.
Most importantly, it is for the amazing children and families we support. They are the reason we keep going and why this recognition means so much. Nigel would have been so proud.
Thank You for naming me the Community Inspiration Awards Winner.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the Community Foundation and everyone involved in the Community Inspiration Awards 2026 for recognising Michelle and the work taking place through the Nigel Prosser Foundation.
The Community Inspiration Awards celebrate outstanding contributions from people working and volunteering across charities, businesses, public-sector organisations and their communities. The 2026 ceremony marked the 14th annual awards, with 21 award categories.
Being recognised alongside so many people who dedicate themselves to helping others makes this achievement even more special.
And, Most Importantly, Thank You to YOU
To everybody who has been part of our journey, thank you.
We couldn’t do what we do without the people who believe in the Nigel Prosser Foundation and the difference we are trying to make for children with SEN and their families.
There is still so much more we want to achieve, more families we want to reach and more support we want to provide. This award gives us another reason to keep pushing forward.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our journey.
And a huge congratulations to our founder, Michelle De-Torre, winner of the Community Inspiration Awards 2026 Volunteer Award!
